He made a difference
There are times in your life when another person makes a real difference, and Bill was such a person in my life. About 1966 I was asked to help him with the task of putting together a report based on some experimental data. I was a young engineer straight out of college, and I wasn't at all sure about how to do this. I made a draft and showed it to Bill. He read it and came back and said: “This is not good!”
I could have gotten depressed, despondent, or angry, but in fact I was glad. It was straight and to the point, and with his help I eventually produced something that was much better. We continued to work together, and I became more confident and gained experience under his wings.
But I will always remember that first comment. It may not seem like much, but it was a pivotal moment for me.
Rest in peace, my friend!
